In The Field

The Hannan School, who we currently support, give their latest report from the field regarding goat milk and wooden stoves.

According to Hannah Naatit, providing ample goat milk to families has helped to improve the overall health of the children. The winter months passed without any incident of serious illness or malnutrition.

The school trustees added another male goat which has resulted in one new female kid and twin male/female kids. A third baby is due very soon. Hannah also reports:

“In an attempt to understand more about goat breeding and the associated issues we contacted an expert in Uganda who has been breeding native goats with a foreign breed of milky goats to increase the milk yields. He is also advising us about food and care for the goats which we pass onto the people in the village.”

Sahara Children has provided funding which has helped ten families transform their daily routines with wood burning stoves. Families enjoy the warmth and comfort of the stoves, especially during the winter months. Children have reportedly had less colds and chest infections. The stoves are a very efficient utility for cooking tagines and heating tea. The benefits have been heard through the village and the requests for more stoves are on every family’s wish list.
