Craig Barrett, Chairman of the Board at Intel, included the capital of Morocco, Rabat, in his recent itinerary aimed at providing computer access to local school children. Barrett has been traveling far and wide to regions of the Middle East, Africa, South America, and Asia with a focus on health and education. He champions technology as being paramount to the improvement of these two cornerstones of the developing world.
In 2007, Dr. Barrett was honored for his leadership and commitments by the Loomba Foundation at the United Nations. Intel currently invests over $100 million annually for educational efforts and notes that only ten percent of households in emerging markets of Africa and other countries currently have PCs. Intel has developed an affordable Classmate PC for the educational institutions in these regions.
Barrett believes that, “all children, everywhere, deserve the chance to change the world, and that possibility begins with a strong education.”
